Update: A North American release has been confirmed! Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD will arrive digitally and physically October 29. The title will feature updated controls and visuals as well as online leaderboards and a new Decathlon mode. The latter tasks players with taking on 10 different minigames in a row. The title will retail for $39.99.
Hard as it might be for younger gamers to believe, Sega’s Super Monkey Ball franchise was once a pretty big deal. Between the series’ puzzle-based single player campaigns and massive number of multiplayer offerings, there was an awful lot to enjoy! Thankfully, those younger fans will finally get to see what the fuss is about when Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz arrives on Switch!
Rumors had been swirling about an upcoming Switch release, and the latest issue of Famitsu has confirmed the game will arrive later this year. Originally released as a Wii launch title, Banana Blitz upped the number of party games available to 50, bringing back classics like Monkey Target and Monkey Bowling and adding some new options, such as Monkey Snowboard and Monkey Fencing (notice a pattern?). As a Wii launch title, the game naturally included motion controls. Those proved a bit controversial at launch, so it will be interesting to see if Sega has retained them.
As of this writing, a North American release date has not been confirmed for Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz. The title will release in Japan October 31. Stay tuned to Nintendojo for more as it develops!
