The success of Nintendo Switch was arguably the biggest video game-related news story of 2017. Not only did Nintendo sell 10 million Switch consoles, but several titles went on to sell millions of copies, as well. Further emphasizing this point, Amazon has released their list of last year’s top-selling games, and Nintendo’s presence is most impressive.
Nintendo’s biggest contributor to the online retailer’s sales was Super Mario Odyssey, but that wasn’t the only critically-acclaimed title flying off the shelves as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Zelda: Breath of the Wild for Switch finished second and third, respectively. Interestingly enough, the Wii U version of Link’s latest adventure managed to come in at number 10. But these weren’t Nintendo’s only top sellers as Splatoon 2 was number seven while Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon grabbed the number eight and nine slots.
Broadening the list to all video game-related merchandise, the only items to outsell Mario Odyssey were PlayStation Store gift cards. However, considering the evergreen nature of Nintendo’s titles and the fact that Switch continues to sell incredibly well, it stands to reason that these titles along with newer games will likely continue to dominate well into 2018.
