Back in 2018, a rumor went around about a supposed Star Fox racing game titled Star Fox Grand Prix. The gaming world was invested, seeing as there were countdowns to every upcoming Nintendo Direct with hopes they would release some information. There was even a logo mockup and comparisons made to other Nintendo IPs.
Five years later and still nothing has come out. This stirred up the question, was it ever real? and the YouTube channel DidYouKnowGaming? answers some more questions too in a video they published on their channel.
Over two years of research and interviews are included in this video, explaining that the game was nothing more than a rumor. It’s legitimacy was boosted due to a photoshopped logo and gossip on the internet.
The precise origins of the Star Fox Grand Prix rumor are tough to identify, but may have been due to confusion around the title Starlink: Battle For Atlas on Switch which went on to star racing elements that included the McCloud crew. Or it could have simply been a hoax that gained popularity too fast and got out of hand. DidYouKnowGaming talks about these hypotheticals as well, some being more likely than others.
The full video covers all the details and seems to be the real deal. The channel did their due diligence, spending a lot of time trying to uncover this mystery of the last five years. It seems as though we will not be getting a Star Fox racing game for the Switch any time soon.
