Nintendo impressed Splatoon players with a constant flow of new content and, so far, they have been keeping the trend going with its Switch sequel. Soon, that trickle will turn into a flood: on November 23, Splatoon 2 will get a massive update.
First, hardcore players will be glad to see the level cap raised from 50 to 99 and once they reach that lofty point they’ll have the option to reset it back to level one for the perk of getting a star next to their name. Next, 140 new clothing items will be added to the game, including some classic gear from the first game as well as more winter-themed clothes. Four new hairstyles will also be added to go along with the new gear. Also, as a very important improvement to quality of life, you’ll now be able to swap gear and weapons between matches without having to back out of matchmaking.
The meatier content for many will likely be the new stages and modes. For competitive play, four new stages will be added and rolled out one at a time following the update. MakoMart will come first while Shellendorf Institute, Walleye Warehouse and Arowana Mall will follow sometime in the near future. Some might recognize the latter two as returning stages from the original game. Salmon Run is also getting a new stage in the form of Salmonid Smokeyard.
One big addition coming in December is a brand-new mode called Clam Blitz. The objective is to gather clams spread throughout the stage, break the barrier blocking your opponent’s goal, and then toss in as many clams as you can. Splatting enemy players will let you steal their collected clams.
Last but not least, fans of Splatoon 2’s soundtrack will be glad to hear that two new tracks are being added to the game.
This is definitely the largest update yet for Splatoon 2, so it will be even more interesting to see what else Nintendo has planned beyond this.

Props to Nintendo for all of this being FREE!
This update is definitely what I was asking for. My favorite update here is the weapon/gear swapping in between matches. That alone is enough to get me back after Mario took over my gaming life for the last month. The inclusion of Walleye Warehouse -my favorite stage from the first game- is a bonus.
