For many years, the Monster Hunter franchise has been a very big deal in Japan, topping sales charts and helping move millions of units of whatever systems it has appeared on — a factor especially true for portables. It also happens that the Nintendo Switch has captured the gaming’s world’s attention since its release back in March. Now, Nintendo and Capcom are partnering up to bring these two cultural forces together in one easy package.
Capcom already announced their plans to bring Monster Hunter XX to Switch, but now they have revealed a special bundle, as well. Not only will this package feature the game alongside the system, but the Switch itself will be adorned with special, Monster Hunter inspired designs as well. The bundle will be released in Japan alongside the standalone game on August 25.
Capcom revealed a few details about the upcoming port, as well. Not surprisingly, the Switch version will feature higher resolution graphics, including up to 1080p when the system is docked. Furthermore, the game will be cross compatible with 3DS versions of the game. Owners of the original Monster Hunter X (released as Monster Hunter Generations outside Japan) will be able to make a onetime transfer to the more feature-rich XX, while those with XX on both systems will be free to transfer data back and forth between the two versions as often as they like.
Unfortunately, Capcom has yet to say anything official about releasing Monster Hunter XX outside of Japan on 3DS, let alone on Switch. And while the Monster Hunter franchise has never been as big a hit in other markets, it has still been a reliable seller and Capcom has a good history of eventually bringing the games to the rest of the world. Hopefully we’ll learn more details at E3.
