While some fans might have been disappointed to learn that Sega’s latest Super Monkey Ball title is a port of an old Wii game, it seems that the publisher is pulling out all the stops to make Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD feel like a substantial upgrade. In addition to online leaderboards and HD graphics, the gang will be accompanied by a new, unlockable character: Sonic the Hedgehog!
Choosing Sega’s main mascot will also replace the bananas in the game with Sonic’s signature gold rings and classic sound effects. The character’s appearance seems to be based on the Classic Sonic design from Sonic Generations, as opposed to the look seen in 3D titles from the Dreamcast era on. In a more cosmetic option, players can also unlock new outfits for AiAi and pals, as well.
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD will release on Switch October 29.
