Sonic Origins Plus was just released for Switch on June 23, and fans became upset even before the game released. Including additions to the base game Sonic Origins such as adding Amy as a playable character and 12 Game Gear titles, this is also the first time the collection is getting a full physical release.

Fans who have already obtained the game aren’t too happy with how Sega handled certain aspects, with complaints ranging from being overly nit-picky to seemingly justified concerns. One of these being about Amy, who can turn into Super Amy after obtaining all 7 chaos emeralds. However, her “super” form falls short to some as it only offers a slight shift in color rather than a sprite redesign.

The only character to actually get a sprite redesign when morphing into their super version is Sonic. The rest, Tails, Knuckles, Mighty, and Ray only receive a basic color change similar to Amy. So it seems fair that they gave her the same treatment, and some fans seem to be okay with it.

Fans are also not happy with the character select display. This one is more justifiable; in the image below, it shows the available characters all in a row, including three which combine another character with Tails.

It may look okay, but many Sonic games in the past would feature separate save slots that let you cycle through available characters. This new method just isn’t as convenient and it also seems as though we can’t play as Sonic and Amy together.

Lastly, fans don’t seem to be very enthusiastic about the new Game Gear titles and how they sound. There is a noticeable difference between the original sound and this new collection, here is an example:

The new sound isn’t terrible, but if you played the original then you will notice the difference.

Overall, Sonic fans just have high expectations. Hopefully this game doesn’t end up being a disaster.
