NIS America announced that it will be working in conjunction with SNK Corporation to bring SNK 40th Anniversary Collection to Nintendo Switch this fall. The upcoming compilation is coming stuffed with titles from the NES-era, prior to the days of NeoGeo. Here’s a sampling of what will be in the package (there will apparently be more games revealed later on) along with a gallery of images from the compilation:
- Alpha Mission (Console/Arcade)
- Athena (Console/Arcade)
- Crystalis (Console)
- Ikari Warriors (Console/Arcade)
- Ikari Warriors II: Victory Road (Console/Arcade)
- Ikari Warriors III: The Rescue (Console/Arcade)
- Guerrilla War (Console/Arcade)
- P.O.W. (Console/Arcade)
- Prehistoric Isle (Arcade)
- Psycho Soldier (Arcade)
- Street Smart (Arcade)
- TNK III (Console/Arcade)
- Vanguard (Arcade)
Each game in the SNK 40th Anniversary Collection will boast 1080p upscaling of its graphics as well as updated control schemes. It will also be possible to rewind gameplay, something fans of the SNES Classic will be familiar with. Finally, players will also be able to enjoy the SNK Museum, which is being touted as “[a]n extensive history of SNK and its games await in the Museum Mode. Explore the legacy of one of Japan’s leading developers with high definition artwork and original promotional assets.”
In short, this sounds freaking awesome and we can’t wait to play it. Some of the games on this list are very, very hard to come by today, so this will be a delightful opportunity for fans to play some classics that they might never have experienced before! This writer talks a lot about preserving the history of the video game industry, so it’s a thrill to be able to report on yet another publisher getting in on bringing its back catalogue to a contemporary audience.
