Over the weekend, fans were shocked to discover Walmart’s online store began selling preorders for the upcoming Super Nintendo Classic system. Unfortunately, those preorders started around midnight EST, when many had just gone to sleep. Some fans awoke the next morning to find that quantities had quickly sold out.
Fans have some reason to be a bit worried. After all, last year’s rollout of the NES Classic was plagued with issues before Nintendo pulled the plug on the console. This time around, the company is offering a recreation of an even more well-regarded console, with a game that has never seen an official release. While Nintendo has assured fans that the SNES Classic will be much easier to come by than its predecessor, demand will still likely be high.
Fortunately, this will not be the last time fans will have an opportunity to preorder. Over the weekend, Target confirmed that they plan to take preorders for the console, which should reassure fans. The NES Classic received no preorders at all, which likely made it difficult for Nintendo to gauge overall interest. Hopefully this is just another indicator that the company has learned their lesson.
