Skylanders Imaginators offers players a first for the series: the ability to create and customize playable characters. It’s a huge step for the series, but, initially, it also seemed like an odd one given the way toys-to-life titles typically work, since it looked as though players would not have physical versions of the characters created in-game.
Activision seemed all too prepared for this particular complaint, however! While the price is a bit on the higher side, die-hard Skylanders fans will have the option to 3D print their figure using the Skylanders Creator phone app for iOS and Android devices. For $49.99, players will be able to get a sandstone version of their character (encased in plastic, as the material can be a bit fragile). The figure will then work just as any other Skylanders figure would when placed on the portal! If that price seems a bit steep, fans will also have the option of spending $14.99 for a trading card that works in place of the figure, similar to Amiibo cards. Finally, $24.99 will get fans a custom t-shirt, featuring their creation.
Despite heavy competition, Skylanders continues to prove a resilient brand. While some other toys-to-life games have failed to find the same level of success, it would seem the franchise still has some very interesting tricks up its sleeve.
