As a reminder to all of us to check that dusty box in our parents’ attics, a storage facility in Nebraska recently was found to contain a mountain of factory-sealed Nintendo and SEGA games spanning the ’80s and early ’90s. The collection had remained untouched since 1994, when a local games store closed and sealed their remaining inventory. The contents offer a phantasmagoria of pre-Y2K memorabilia, from coveted originals, like Castlevania: Bloodlines on the Genesis, to over-produced towers of Madden and NHL Hockey.

Gameroom, the Nebraska-based resellers who made the discovery, attested to the mixed contents of the vault released a video of the haul, including over $5000 in high-value collectibles, pending independent evaluations, with an estimated total unit value of at least double that figure. While the resellers have not released a complete inventory, the global supply of real vintage games is constantly dwindling and any truly remarkable items will surely become hot commodities on the collector’s market.
