If your life has been lacking in relatively obscure ’90s platformers, your 2024 is about to get a whole lot more interesting. Konami unveiled that it will be bringing a couple of collections of exactly that to Nintendo Switch later this year. Rocket Knight Adventures: Re-Sparked and Felix the Cat Collection are the compilations in question, containing an assortment of SNES, NES, Game Boy, and SEGA Genesis-era games. Here’s the rundown of what’s in each:
- Rocket Knight Adventures: Re-Sparked
- Rocket Knight Adventures (SEGA Genesis)
- Sparkster: Rocket Knight Adventures 2 (SEGA Genesis)
- Sparkster (SNES)
- Felix the Cat Collection
- Felix the Cat (NES)
- Felix the Cat (Game Boy)
The collections are being produced in collaboration with Limited Run Games, utilizing that company’s Carbon Engine to bring the titles to Switch. There are pre-orders for physical editions that will be opening up for each collection via LRG which you can check out here, but if you fancy digital versions those will also become available at some point in 2024 (no exact release dates have been given yet).
For the uninitiated, Rocket Knight was developed by Konami and revolves around the exploits of Sparkster, a opossum with a rocket pack and a sword that can shoot energy blasts at his foes, while Felix the Cat is a popular cartoon character from the 1920s. The games from the Felix collection were developed by Hudson Soft, which was absorbed by Konami in 2011. Of the two compilations, the Felix games are arguably the hardest to come by in their original form, with complete physical copies of the NES and Game Boy titles selling for hundreds of dollars apiece.
