Zach Cregger, director of the critically acclaimed film Barbarian, is heading up a new film based on the popular survival horror video game series Resident Evil published by Capcom. This will be a reboot, as it will be completely separate from the previous film series that starred Milla Jovovich.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, several movie studios are currently locked in a bidding war to get the rights to make the movie alongside Constantin Film and PlayStation Productions, among them Netflix and Warner Bros. For those unfamiliar with Constantin Films, they are the studio that has held screen rights to the Resident Evil films since the original series.
With PlayStation Productions working alongside, sources have suggested that this new film will harken back to the original games and focus on accuracy to the source material and a stronger sense of horror.
