Acclaim is a name that old school gamers are quite familiar with. Founded back in 1987 and quickly would go on to become one of the larger video game publishers in the business. Its success was so great in the ’90s that eventually Acclaim began buying video game studios like Probe Entertainment and Iguana Entertainment to form Acclaim Studios to begin producing software in-house. However, by 2004 Acclaim’s time of dominance had come to a close and the company filed for bankruptcy.
In the years since, the various IPs under the Acclaim banner were sold off and the name has faded into obscurity… until now. Graffiti Games co-founder Alex Josef is the new CEO and partnered with several industry veterans, including Russell Binder and Mark Caplan, as well as former pro wrestler Jeff Jarrett. Here’s what Josef has to say about the rescucitation of Acclaim:

It’s an absolute honor and pleasure to be leading the charge in bringing Acclaim back to the forefront of the games industry. We’re fortunate that we have an extremely talented team and that we’ve already signed some incredible indie titles, which we’ll be revealing soon.
It seems that the focus for this new Acclaim, at least for the time being, will be on bringing indie games to market. Acclaim is also hoping to “reignite classic franchises,” but as for which ones, that remains a mystery. Back in its heyday, Acclaim was responsible for bringing the likes of Mortal Kombat, Turok, NBA Jam, and much more to home consoles. For now, fans can look forward to what Acclaim has in store as it preps to launch its first new game in over 20 years.
