Announced during the online DROP 01 event, Devil May Cry is coming to Netflix as an anime. The company announced alongside Capcom that the beloved series is in development and will arrive on the streaming platform “soon.” You can see the brief teaser for the animation in the trailer below:
The show is being helmed by showrunner Adi Shankar, who also runs Konami’s Castlevania series on Netflix. Not much is yet known about Devil May Cry, but here’s a description from the team:
In this animated adaptation of the popular Capcom game, sinister forces are at play to open the portal between the human and demon realms. In the middle of it all is Dante, an orphaned demon-hunter-for-hire, unaware that the fate of both worlds hangs around his neck.
How faithful of an adaptation this series will be given the… delicate nature of the games’ stories in today’s political climate is unknown, but Dante at least looks the part thus far. Fan reaction to Castlevania on Netflix has been fairly positive, so here’s hoping that Devil May Cry can also be a strong adaptation and find an audience.
