In 2018, A Normal Lost Phone gave Switch owners a unique option on eShop. The title saw players exploring the phone of an unknown person in the hopes of discovering more about the previous owner. This December, Simulacra will take a similar gameplay approach, albeit with a horror slant!
In Simulacra, players find the lost phone of a woman named Anna. The phone contains a video message in which Anna asks the viewer for help. As such, Simulacra will feature a wealth of fully voiced video, in the vein of other FMV games from Wales Interactive, such as The Bunker or Late Shift. By communicating with Anna’s friends and diving deeper into the mechanics of the phone, players will uncover more information about Anna’s past. The “phone” contains a dating app named Spark, a faux social media platform (Jabbr), a web browser and more. The choices players make will result in five different possible endings.
One of the most common complaints about A Normal Lost Phone is that players felt uncomfortable with the voyeurism. While Simulacra seems as though it will offer a similar approach, it might work a bit better in a game with a horror angle. We’ll know for sure when Simulacra arrives on Switch December 3.
