Back in 2010, WayForward released Shantae: Risky’s Revenge on the fledgling DSiWare store, and it quickly grabbed the gaming community’s attention as fantastic follow up to the under-appreciated Game Boy Color gem Shantae— a brilliant 2D platformer in its own right and one of the best games on the handheld. Fast forward to today and the Shantae franchise, along with its developers, remain big names among indie gaming fans, with an especially strong connection to Nintendo fans. The impending launch of an HD remake of that DSiWare classic should just further cement that connection.
WayForward has announced that the remake is being submitted to Nintendo of America for final approval, so whether you’re looking to relive that masterpiece on the big screen or are going to be experiencing it for the first time, you shouldn’t have to wait too much longer. The developer also mentioned some of the tweaks being made to the game, stating gamers will “will be able to play the most popular Shantae game on the planet, with all of those fancy bonus features like the new Warp System, improved balancing, HD illustrations, and the infamous Magic Mode Costume!”

Assuming Shantae: Risky’s Revenge Director’s Cut meets all of Nintendo quality control standards, it shouldn’t be too long before WayForward has an official release date, so keep on the look out for that in the near future.
