Sonic Mania proved to be exactly the thing Sega’s blue hedgehog had long needed. The return to Sonic’s roots ended up a major success with critics and longtime fans alike. It all kicked off with a gorgeous opening cinematic, featuring heroes Sonic, Tails and Knuckles. Sega has now provided a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of the game’s opening, which we’ve embedded below!
Since the days of Dreamcast, Sonic’s design has changed quite a bit, getting lankier and a bit darker over time. Sonic Mania embraced a much more cartoonish look than had been seen in years, and seeing the genesis of this new design (no pun intended) is pretty cool!
