Sega recently unveiled Sega Forever, a brand new service for mobile which offers users a growing collection of classic games for free.
The number of games available on the service will grow in the coming months and they will include new features which weren’t in their original versions, like leaderboards and cloud saves.
As Sega Forever uses the Unity engine, it could also make it relatively easy to bring the service to other platforms in the future. As Mike Evans, Sega Networks’ Chief Marketing Officer, said in a recent interview with GamesIndustry.biz:
“About 90% of the games so far are in Unity… The reason we chose Unity as middleware is it enables us to take this content to other platforms as well. So my first focus is mobile. It’s a huge project and what I really want to do is get mobile right. After this, there are options: we can look at desktop, Facebook, we could even take these games to consoles like Switch.”
Depending on the success of the service, Evans speculated that Sega may even look to release titles on Sega Forever that have never before been launched in the West.
