We rather loved Sonic Mania when it came out back in the summer of last year. Indeed, we loved it so much that we described it as “[a]ddictive, fast-paced platforming that returns Sonic the Hedgehog to his roots.” While the original alone is a masterpiece in its own right, as Leonardo da Vinci once said: “art is never finished, only abandoned.” With that in mind, Sega has decided to revisit the game in the form of the upcoming Sonic Mania Plus! Check it out:

Sonic Mania Plus will be released as a physical game and comes with the following goodies:

  • Holographic packaging
  • SEGA Genesis reversible cover art
  • 32-page art book
  • Two new characters: Mighty and Ray
  • Encore Mode
  • Four-player multiplayer mode

There’s a summer release window, but beyond that we’re not sure about a date… yet. In the interim, drool over the possibilities to be explored in this excellent looking expansion of an already wonderful game. Let us know what you think on social media and in the comments!

I have to wonder whether the new features will be made available for owners of the existing game. I personally loved the original, but I’m not sure whether I can justify spending more for this!
