Cheat codes have been a part of video games for decades. Input a series of prompts on your controller and voila, the player has everything from infinite lives to access to every level in a game. One of the most famous of these codes is the Konami Code (Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start for those who forgot/don’t know!). As time has gone by, cheat codes have become less common, giving way instead to paid DLC to access things that were once free.
In a total throwback to yesteryear, and also an absolute shocker, is word that Super Punch-Out!!, yes the SNES game from 28 years ago, has had new codes uncovered. This includes a special two-player mode; that’s right, an entire portion of the game has heretofore never been experienced before! The discovery was made by the Twitter page Unlisted Cheats:
At the title, hold Y+R, then press A or START. Following screen will appear instead or regular menus. Here you can select any character to fight a free single match. See, even fighters from SPECIAL CIRCUIT are available here. -> pic.twitter.com/Hh7AtPdTcK

Sorry! Completely forgot to mention! All combinations must be held on JOYPAD2! Then A or START on JOYPAD1!

As the user points out, they were digging around in the game when they found two new codes that had never previously been publicly revealed. The first is the ability to select any fighter to battle in a special one-on-one match, the second is that another player can take on the role of any of these fighters. To access these modes, on the game’s start screen hold the Y and R buttons on the player-two controller and then press Start or A on the player-one controller. Then, select the boxer player two wants to fight as and have them hold down the B and Y buttons on their controller until the round starts.
Talk about an amazing discovery to make after such a long time. What’s even cooler is that any copy of Super Punch-Out!! has all of this content contained on the cartridge; this also extends to the Nintendo Switch Online version. If you’re interested in trying these modes out, give them a whirl and let us know what you think in the comments!
