Masahiro Sukarai’s YouTube channel is a great place to get some insight on his personal history in the gaming industry where he also gives out advice based on his experiences. He did create Kirby and Smash Bros. after all, so it is worth looking into. In his newest video, he showcases the 115 stages in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Between the classic Battlefield, to the most recent Hollow Bastion (from Kingdom Hearts), every stage is a wonderful representation of it’s game and/or series of origin.

Sukarai gives us a short introduction, where he alludes to the challenge of making every stage work while having up to eight fighters on screen, at 60fps no less. This single title has incredible breadth, and this video gives us an up close look at many of those amazing stages. Be sure to watch closely for references and easter eggs you may have missed while you were busy battling your friends!

With the stages Delfino Plaza, Yoshi’s Story, and Flat Zone X, we are able to now see the stage’s “set up” in relation to the wider world of the game it comes from. Flat Zone X is from the Game & Watch, literally a flat scene, and we are shown that behind the Delfino Plaza stage they have perfectly recreated the whole town. Many flying stages, such as Corneria and the Halberd, the camera zooms out from the main stage to showcase the backgrounds as the stage itself flies.

Unfortunately, not every stage was shown in this video, however, this video did give us snippets of a lot of cool features within the stages shown. The level of care and detail is clearly evident, and Sakarai says these stages “should prove great reference for any aspiring game artists.”

What did you think of the video? Did you spot anything you haven’t seen before? Leave your favorite Easter egg down in the comments for others to find!
