While Wii U might ultimately be considered a failure in the overarching history of video games, the system remains noteworthy for several reasons; one of which is it represented a turning point in Nintendo’s efforts to attract independent developers. An early example of a “Nindies” success was Runbow, a multiplayer focused platformer/party game from 13AM Games that featured an interesting mechanic in which shifting colors changed what platforms were available to stand on. The game launched to positive reviews and decent sales figures before ultimately finding its way to other platforms, including 3DS.
Now, Runbow is coming full circle with a Switch release. This version will include online play for up to nine players while local multiplayer supports 8. Furthermore, the game will also see a physical release later this year in the form of a Deluxe Edition which includes all of the game’s DLC in addition to stickers.
Gamers won’t have to wait long for the digital release as it will be available on eShop on July 3. The Deluxe Edition is currently slated for some time in the third quarter of 2018.
