While Nintendo fans have much to celebrate this week with the arrival of Joker in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, things are slightly bittersweet, thanks to the retirement of Reggie Fils-Aimé. In order to stay connected with fans, the Regginator has started himself a Twitter account, with which he’s already shared some very interesting photos. The most interesting picture, however, includes the retirement gifts he’s received from Nintendo. Among them are a stunning Mario statue, a notebook of names to take, an ass to kick (really!), a Virtual Boy and an interesting piece of artwork from Retro Studios.
The artwork naturally contains the characters Retro has worked on so far, including Samus, a Metroid and the Kong family, but part of the image is hidden by the Mario statue. Behind it, a robotic hand can be seen. Could it be a new character from Metroid Prime 4? Or perhaps something else? Five years passed between the release of Retro’s Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and the announcement that Retro would be working on Metroid Prime 4, and we still don’t know what the team was working on in the interim. Could this be a new remodel of ROB 64 from the rumored Star Fox Grand Prix? Or is it a character from an entirely brand-new IP?
In all likelihood, we’ll be waiting for some time to find out the identity of this mystery character. For now, fans will simply have to excite themselves at the prospect of a new mystery. Let us know your theories in the comments below, and on social media!
