Pokémon GO developer Niantic might soon be exiting the video game business if a recent report from Bloomberg is true. The scuttlebutt is that the company will be selling off its games catalog to Scopely, a subdivision of Savvy Games Group. The sale would include Pokémon GO alongside all of Niantic’s other games (including Monster Hunter Now, among others), with an estimated price tag of $3.5 billion.
What impact this might have on Pokémon GO is unknown, but presumably the title would continue on as it remains an enormous revenue generator even years after release. It also remains an active social hub for gamers, with Pokémon GO Fest 2025 kicking off this May in Osaka, Japan before heading off into other parts of the world. As we learn more, we’ll be sure to update you all, but for now keep this one filed away as rumor until Niantic or Scopely say otherwise.
