Nightly News Roundup

First Pandora’s Tower Trailer, Details Revealed

Since its initial announcement, little has been said on Pandora’s Tower, the enigmatic Wii title slated for release in Japan later this year. Nintendo has been characteristically mum on the project, revealing only a single piece of concept artwork on the game’s official website, but the most recent issue of Famitsu magazine has shed some light on the mysterious title.

Billed as an action RPG, Pandora’s Tower follows the story of Ende and his friend Ceres. Ceres is set to sing at the kingdom of Elysium’s harvest festival, but she is cursed by a beast during a sudden attack on the area. To rid the curse, Ende must ascend the eponymous tower and gather the flesh of the monsters dwelling within before Ceres succumbs to her condition. A timer at the bottom of the screen indicates the current progression of the curse, and players must defeat each of the title’s twelve bosses before the timer expires to completely cure Ceres.

In addition to this information, the first footage of the title in motion is now available on YouTube. The game is currently scheduled for release on May 26.

Dragon Quest X Almost Done; Announcement by Year’s End

Little has been said on Dragon Quest X since the title was first revealed back in 2008, but an interview with series creator Yuji Horii in the April issue of Nintendo Power has given some insight into the current status of the game. According to Horii, development on the title has been progressing smoothly and the team is currently working on “the last parts of the game.” Regarding a public unveiling, Horii had the following to say: “We can’t really share much else at this point, but by the end of this year we should be able to announce something regarding it.”

Furthermore, Horii stated that many fans of the series have been clamoring for “a new Dragon Quest that follows the same system of Dragon Quest VIII,” and he and his team have been taking these wishes into consideration during X’s development. While not a particularly revelatory kernel of information, it is nonetheless an indication of what to expect when the game in finally unveiled to the public later this year.

NOA Registers TheLastStory.com and XenobladeChronicles.com

Following in its European counterpart’s footsteps, Nintendo of America has registered the domains TheLastStory.com and XenobladeChronicles.com. The two games have been the subject of much speculation as the company has refused to comment on whether or not either would see release outside of Japan, but these actions have done much to assuage the fears of Wii owners hoping for a chance to experience the titles.

The recently-renamed Xenoblade Chronicles has been confirmed for a European release later this year, but there has yet to be an official word on either title’s status in North America. While these domains are not an outright confirmation the two highly-anticipated RPGs will be coming stateside, they are at least a promising indication that the games will see a release on this side of the ocean.
