Hideo Kojima (Metal Gear) and Yuji Naka (Sonic The Hedgehog) praise Super Mario Bros.

25 years old Super Mario Bros. not only single handedly shaped the gaming industry as we know it, but it also inspired other game developers to create their own games. Yuji Naka, Sonic The Hedgehog co-creator said:

“I have a lot of fond memories of the NES. If I had to pick a favorite, though, I’d probably go with Super Mario Bros. You always had to start from world 1-1. You could use the Warp Zones to skip many of the other levels, but you always had to play through World 1-1. I always tried to get through the level as fast as I could, and that inspired the initial concept for Sonic The Hedgehog.”

Metal Gear series creator, Hideo Kojima, said:

“With the creation of Super Mario Bros., Mr. Shigeru Miyamoto not only altered the future of gaming, but actually changed the concept of ‘value’ for all forms of entertainment. And in the process, changed my future– leading me to become the game designer I am today. I feel the game truly deserves to be hailed as one of mankind’s greatest inventions. Super Mario Bros. is equivalent to the Big Bang of our gaming universe. Mr. Miyamoto, thank you for giving birth to Super Mario Bros.

Yup, it’s pretty evident these guys love Mario.

Pokémon Black/White sells 2.63 millions in two days

Pokémon games selling well is a given, but this time, the oddly region-locked latest titles in the series sold more units in two days than any other game. Ever. Also, considering previous records by Pokémon games, Black/White is most likely not going to stop selling like crazy anytime soon. It also had a positive effect on DS sales – just when you thought everyone in Japan already had one.

Sonic Colors is one of Sonic’s best games ever… says the producer

Takahi Iizuka, Sonic Colors producer, says the game will be one of Sonic’s best, comparing it to Sonic Adventure 2 Battle:

“This is a similar title to Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, but the similarity comes from the concept– keeping the tempo very fluid. A similar concept applies here. Is it the best since then? We always strive to make the best Sonic game yet. It’s at least on a par with Sonic Adventure Battle 2, and I’m confident it is one of the best Sonic games ever.”
