iPad Threat Against Nintendo Assessed

A major market study recently found that 38 percent of iPad owners felt that the iPad met all of their portable gaming needs. While it seems like a small percentage, it’s important to note that 23 percent believed that the iPad would be ideal to play with before buying the machine, whereas the 38 percent came from that same group after they had owned the device. While this may not be a huge problem for Nintendo at the moment thanks to the price of the iPad, if the price were to come down the DS could see some very solid competition from the Apple product. It would be interesting to see if the sample group’s opinions change after 3DS is released.

Sony Wants Wii’s Discarded Prototypes

In a recent interview, Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios commented that he felt Wii was actually beneficial in luring developers over to Move. He claimed that Move allows those developers who never got an idea past the prototyping stage on Wii because of the console’s limitations to bring those ideas to fruition. He did not illuminate exactly what those perceived limitations were begging the question, “if it didn’t work on Wii why should it work on PS3?”
