Among the slew of indie roguelikes that have been released in the last decade, one of the more notable ones has been Risk of Rain, a 2D action-platformer filled with loot, hordes of enemies, massive bosses, and a constantly increasing difficulty level. The game established a fanbase and eventually made its way to Switch. The developers, Hopoo Games, have been working on a sequel, which is already available in early access form on PC, and have revealed that it will also be coming the Switch.
As a sequel, Risk of Rain 2 already seems quite ambitious as it changes everything up with the addition of another dimension. Instead of side-scrolling pixel-art levels, you have large 3D environments to explore. The core tenants of gameplay remain consistent, though; collect loot to get stronger so you can continue to battle the enemies that also keep growing in power.
The game is being published by Gearbox and will be available on Switch sometime this summer, so it looks like players won’t have long to wait.
