Last week, Nintendo teased a brand-new peripheral for Switch that looked to be fitness-related. Many pundits assumed a follow-up to Wii Fit might be in store, but the truth is far stranger. This morning, Nintendo announced Ring Fit Adventure, an adventure game that incorporates two new peripherals: the Ring-Con and Leg Strap.
No buttons are used in Ring Fit Adventure. Instead, players place the Joy-Con controllers into the Ring-Con and Leg Strap peripherals and use movements in the game to control everything, getting a workout as they play! Correctly using the game’s exercise-based Fit Skills against enemies will earn players experience, causing them to level-up and learn more moves. There are 40 Fit Skills in total to unlock, and players will have to learn how to use them in order to defeat the minions of Dragaux. Worried about waking up other people in the house or apartment? Players can alter their experience by choosing Silent mode, which swaps out jogging-style exercises for quieter alternatives.
For those that don’t enjoy traditional workouts, this certainly seems like an interesting new option! Of course, those who want a more traditional exercise option can stick to the minigames in Quick Play mode. Players can also perform exercises individually, or establish a set of different exercises when they just want to work out.
Ring Fit Adventure will launch October 18 for $79.99. What do you think of Nintendo’s latest fitness game? Let us know in the comments below!
