Resident Evil was introduced to the world back in 1996, establishing the modern day survival-horror genre with the first game in the franchise. Twenty-four years later, the series has evolved greatly and given us some of the most frightening moments in video game history, as well as some of the greatest games of all time.
With those accolades under its belt, Capcom has announced that the Resident Evil series has now sold more than 100 million units worldwide, with more than 80% of sales coming from outside of Japan. Referring to the series as its “flagship property,” Capcom attributes reaching the milestone to a number of factors, including:

- Remaking classic titles like Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3, while carrying out price promotions on older titles that were timed in conjunction with new releases
Capcom plans to continue further sales of Resident Evil titles on next-gen consoles starting with the future release of Resident: Evil Village, the sequel to Resident Evil 7: biohazard, which alone sold 7.5 million copies.
