Former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aimé has been quite busy ever since he retired from the company. Besides teaching at his alma mater of Cornell University as the first Leader in Residence, he’s also been speaking his mind about a variety of different topics dealing with everything from business to the video game industry. A few days ago he even presented to the Indie Game winner at the Video Game Awards!
More recently, Reggie spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about his views on game streaming and what its impact will be on the industry. With the launch of Google Stadia and other services like PlayStation Now, streaming is an issue that is very much on the mind of gamers everywhere. Here’s some of what Reggie had to say:
“As the technology evolves to be cloud, and as download speeds increase, what it means is you’re going to be able to play any game on any device at any time. It will happen over the next decade and be something that’s really meaningful for players.”
Reggie also noted that after being with Nintendo for 15 years, he’s quite enjoying being able to slip back into the role of bystander as a fan and bask in the fun that the industry has to offer. Reggie had no insight into what Nintendo may or may not do in regards to streaming, but it’s clear that he feels the technology is going to play a big part in the lives of gamers moving forward.
