The newest set of main series Pokémon games comes out next month, November 18, but you can actually get an early taste of the game, along with a head start on your adventure, with the demo released today.
The Sun/Moon demo now available on the eShop is not just a slice of the full game– it does take place on one of the islands you’ll be able to explore later– but it offers some exclusive content meant to give you taste of some of the coming changes. Most notable is the ability to participate in “trials,” diverse events that replace the gyms that have been a mainstay in every game so far. Yes, there will still be plenty of battles to fight, but trials offer other unique activities, such as the photography event included in the demo.
However, what makes this demo especially noteworthy is the fact that playing it will unlock some things that will carry over to the new game. The most significant is Ash-Greninja, a version of the ninja/frog-like Pokémon based on the one featured in the anime series. Alongside this special creature, there will be a plethora of other items that can be unlocked in a variety of ways, including a Nugget which will undoubtedly serve as a nice way to bolster your bank account in the final game.
Dataminers have also had an opportunity to examine the demo and they have apparently discovered quite a few tidbits about the full games. We don’t want to post much in the way of spoilers here so we won’t mention them, but for those of you who want a sneak peek, Kotaku has delved into the details.
The demo seems like a no-brainer download for anyone interested in Sun/Moon, so be sure to check it out and let us know what you think.
