The global launch of Pokémon Sun and Moon was guaranteed to be massive. The series has always generated huge revenue for Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, but the success of Pokémon Go was expected to push even stronger sales for the latest titles in the series.
While physical sales for the twin releases failed to topple the launch of X and Y in Japan, in the UK, the games gave Nintendo their strongest debut ever in the region. Sun and Moon took the third and fourth spots on the week’s sales charts respectively, but combined sales far surpassed FIFA 2017 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, which took the first and second spots on the list. Interestingly enough, the previous record holder for Nintendo in the UK was 2008’s Wii Fit, a title which proved quite difficult to find early on.
