While Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are both very hotly anticipated, Pokémon Legends: Arceus might have an even higher level of hype surrounding it. The spin-off has a drastically different tone, look, and feel compared to any Pokémon game that has preceded it. Launching January 28, 2022, its release is closer than it might seem. During today’s Pokémon Presents broadcast, a bunch of new information was unveiled—give it a look:

First off, Arceus has a unique battle system. For instance, Pokémon in this game are capable of attacking in rapid sequences of attacks, something not seen in prior series installments. This capability is determined by a Pokémon’s stats and is represented in the Agile Style and Strong Style forms of battle. The former grants faster attacks but with less strength, while the latter offers a slower pace with greater strength.

This matters especially when going out to capture Pokémon in the field. As has begun to become the norm, Pokémon roam the environment freely and can be caught using a mix of tossing Poké Balls as well as engaging in battle. A crafting element has been introduced, where players can create their own Poké Balls and more. Players can also look forward to region-specific Pokémon appearing in this game, including Hisuian forms of Braviary and Growlithe.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is being touted as spin-off, but it seems clear that Nintendo is testing the waters with new concepts and a different look and feel than fans are accustomed to. Do you like the way Arceus is shaping up? Tell us down below how you’re digging (or not digging) the game.
