Judging the success of mobile games is a little different from traditional platforms. While you could previously just look at total sales, nowadays, looking at overall revenue is probably the best option. And, when you look at it that way, Pokémon Go hasn’t just had a good year; it’s been going strong ever since it launched.
Industry tracker App Annie recently released a report looking at the overall performance of apps both in 2019, as well as over the past decade. While Pokemon Go didn’t make either list for total downloads, it made the top 10 for both when it comes to revenue. This year, it took the number 6 spot, while it finished at number 8 for the decade- an impressive accomplishment seeing it only came out a little more than three years ago.
Pokémon Go still receives frequent updates and has plenty of Pokémon to add to its roster, so the next year, and decade, will probably continue to rake in the cash.
