Yesterday’s Pokémon Direct broadcast dropped a couple of interesting tidbits, including the revelation that Pokémon Home finally has a solid release window. The service is anticipated to launch in February, bringing with it the closure of Pokémon Bank and the consolidation of all Pocket Monsters from across a number of different platforms. That’s right, dear readers— Pokémon Home will become your one-stop shop for inventory control.
What does that mean, exactly? Well, in the recent past, Pokémon have been confined to Nintendo 3DS, smart devices (via Pokémon Go), and Nintendo Switch. The three platforms did not work in tandem, meaning that Pokémon caught on one would be inaccessible on the other. Which sucked for fans who spent hours training and leveling up their ‘Mon on various devices but couldn’t use them across the spectrum of different games.
With Pokémon Home, fans can finally bring all of their different Pokémon together into a single, cloud-based service. This will allow sharing between different games in the future without need of wires, matching platforms, and so on. It’s sure to be a boon to the most arduous of collectors and traders. That said, it isn’t free; there are fees attached to using Pokémon Home which Nintendo has yet to detail. For comparison’s sake, Pokémon Bank, Nintendo’s soon-to-be former storage solution, was $4.99 per month.
