Pokémon’s 20th Anniversary continues to be a huge part of Nintendo’s marketing push for 2016, and the hype surrounding the franchise has yet to show any signs of slowing down. Frankly, if anything Nintendo looks to be gearing things up even more, as there will be a special Pokémon Direct broadcast this coming Friday, February 26 at 7 AM Pacific Time. The broadcast is shrouded in mystery so far, but it would be fair to expect news about the Virtual Console re-releases of Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow, as well as Pokkén Tournament, but beyond those titles it’s anyone’s guess as to what might be featured during the broadcast. Fingers crossed for the long-rumored Pokémon Z!
Besides the direct, there’s a ton of additional Pokémon stuff to look forward to now and in the future. On the mobile front, the Pokémon Photo Booth application has been released for iOS (with plans for an Android version soon!), which allows users to snap pics and modify them with an assortment of Pokémon accoutrements. Meanwhile, European fans can look forward to the release of Pokémon Ranger on the Wii U Virtual Console; the fondly remembered spin-off should be a real boon for European fans!
