Movie adaptations have long been part of the comic book industry. Heck, the first collaboration ever between Marvel and DC was an adaptation of The Wizard of Oz! While movie adaptations aren’t nearly as prevalent as they once were, some have even gone on to become classics in their own right, like Alien by Archie Goodwin and Walt Simonson. The first live action Pokémon film will follow in this proud tradition with a graphic novel set for release this summer.
Written by Brian Buccellato with art by Nelson Daniel, Pokémon: Detective Pikachu follows the story of the film, as Tim Goodman and Pikachu search for the former’s missing father. Adaptations such as these are usually based off the initial script, rather than a completed film, so the graphic novel will likely have some differences from the version fans see in theaters.
Pokémon: Detective Pikachu will be published by Legendary Comics. No price point has been announced at this time.
