Well, that was unexpected. After months of rampant speculation about Persona 5 coming to Nintendo Switch following the shocking reveal of Joker as a DLC character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, it’s finally been revealed that the console will get a Persona game— it’s just not the one that everyone thought it would be. The mysterious label “P5S” was spotted on a Persona 5 teaser website not too long ago and was what many believed to be as close to an outright confirmation that Persona 5 was getting a Switch port outside of an official press release. Alas, that is not the case, with an entirely different game announced which carries that acronym: Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers. The first glimpse at the game was posted on Atlus’ Japanese Twitter page— click the link to watch the trailer:

The game is being developed by Omega Force, a studio that is no stranger to Nintendo and its fans thanks to titles like Hyrule Warriors and Fire Emblem Warriors. Like those two games, Persona 5 Scramble is very much a musou or Warriors-style experience, where players can expect to take on enormous waves of enemy hordes using a variety of attacks and powers. That Switch owners’ first taste of Persona on the console will be in the vein of Dynasty Warriors as opposed to a traditional series entry is likely to be polarizing for some, but it’s nonetheless fun to have the title coming to the system.
