Here’s a quick overview of what the prequel covers, straight from SEGA:
In Part 1 of the prologue, Sonic and Tails are on their way to meet Amy, and begin their journey to the Starfall Islands, when the trio is forced to face the evil Dr. Eggman along the way.
The work here seems to be by the IDW Sonic comic team, at least in terms of the art, but there hasn’t been an official announcement as to who is producing the comic. The comic’s second part is on the way, but SEGA hasn’t specified when that will be. SEGA did, however, recently point out that there’s the comic and animation prequel to look forward to.
