For a company that spent many, many years in the good graces of gamers around the world, Blizzard’s reputation seems to have taken a bit of a hit recently. From the general transition in their product strategy to more service oriented games, to their willingness to censor their players out of fear of upsetting the Chinese government, Blizzard could probably go for a PR win right about now. While the decision to bring their super successful shooter Overwatch to Switch might be enough to please some players, at least a few are going to be frustrated by how they’ve chosen to handle the game’s “physical” release.
Overwatch: Legendary Edition is now available for purchase both on eShop as well as the shelves of your favorite local and online retailers. However, don’t be surprised when that box feels a little empty because all you’ll find inside is a download code. In all fairness, the packaging does make this abundantly clear, but considering the fact it released the same day as The Witcher 3, a much larger game that has been squeezed onto 32gb cartridges for the physical printing, one can’t help but question their decision.
Then again, Blizzard has literally put its profits over the wellbeing of a city state and the millions of people who dwell there, so maybe their desire to scrounge every possible penny isn’t that shocking.
On the plus side, picking up any version of Overwatch: Legendary Edition will net you three free months of Nintendo’s online service and booting up the game before the end of the year will reward you with a Golden Loot box.
