It wasn’t all that long ago (this past February to be exact) when series producer Matt Walker and director Hideaki Itsuno both conveyed how much they’d love to see Devil May Cry on Nintendo Switch. Itsuno even went so far as to say that if Switch owners embraced Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen on the platform that Devil May Cry 5 could be given serious consideration for a port of some kind. Well, flash forward to today and Capcom has announced that the first Devil May Cry will be coming to Switch this summer!

It’s pretty exciting news for Nintendo fans, as it would mean another premier franchise is coming to the system. Devil May Cry was originally a build of Resident Evil 4 back during that title’s arduous development, but was deemed too extreme and over the top to be a Resi game and was turned into its own spin-off. The series stars protagonist Dante (most of the time), who is the half-human son of the demon Sparda. The games are stuffed with kinetic, powerful action sequences dominated by blade and gun attacks.
Directed by Hideki Kamiya, it’s no surprise that Devil May Cry is a bombastic flurry of violence and sex appeal; after all, he is the father of Bayonetta, as well. The title will be a digital exclusive in all regions. There’s no release date for DMC on Switch beyond that it’s coming in summer, but it’s exciting news nonetheless. Will you be giving it a play?
