In the fine tradition begun by Sonic CD, which features a beloved animation of the Blue Blur to kick off the game, Sonic Superstars will also begin with an animated cinematic. SEGA decided to tease fans a bit more before the game launches this fall by releasing the entire intro onto the web. You can watch it right here if you’re so inclined:
The animation is bursting with energy, hopefully setting the stage for what will be a proper evolution of the 2D Sonic formula. As has been noted by many other news outlets, Sonic Superstars, in particular owing to its four-player couch co-op, seems primed to be the “New Super Mario Bros.” of the series.Although the visuals are now 3D as opposed to the glorious pixels of yesteryear, hands-on previews have revealed that the game feels remarkably like Sonic’s classic adventures. That sounds like a positive to this writer, and likely many fans will be similarly delighted if this turns out to be true for the final product.
In the interim, as we all await Sonic Superstars’ fall launch, pre-orders will snag fans an in-game LEGO Eggman skin, a reversible cover for the game box, and an acrylic standee. There’s also the chance to unlock a modern Amy skin for those who sign up for the game’s email newsletter.
