The announcement of New Super Mario Bros. U‘s port to Switch revealed a slew of new additions, including new items and playable characters. Not only would players be able to assume control of Toadette, but by acquiring the new Super Crown item they could transform her into Peachette, a form that makes her look and play like Princess Peach. However, this new feature had an unexpected impact on the internet as artists started to imagine how the Super Crown might change other classic Mario characters with Bowsette, a Bowser-Peach hybrid, becoming especially popular for artists, cosplayers, and just about everyone who loves memes.
Unfortunately, it looks as though Nintendo doesn’t quite share the enthusiasm for Bowsette or the other fan-imagined Super Crown transformations, because the item will only be able to transform Toadette. An update to the New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe webpage confirms that only the female fungi will be able to use the new item.
The hopes of many a fan have no doubt been dashed. Of course, there is always the possibility the item might show up in future titles and be usable for more characters, though Bowsette doesn’t quite seem like Nintendo’s style, especially for such the big bad in their cornerstone franchise. Then again, you never know.
