Version 1.1 of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has been released, and while the patch includes a number of minor updates, the most notable is a victory animation that has been removed from the game.
Inkling Girl strikes a pose in which she raises her right fist and rests her left hand on her right bicep. The gesture – which looks very similar to a gesture known as the bras d’honneur or the “Italian Salute” – is considered obscene and offensive in a number of countries, including France, Spain, Italy, Georgia, and Portugal, as well as throughout Latin America. She now simply fist-pumps instead. See below for Inkling Girl’s original victory pose versus the pose post-patch:

In addition to Inkling Girl’s update, the following changes have also been implemented:
- In online matches, opponents’ names are now displayed in rear view mirror mode
- In online matches, the period of invincibility after a spin-out or crash has been extended
- While waiting to join a friend group, up to two players can now spectate
- Players are now added less frequently to Mirror and 200cc matches in Worldwide and Regional modes
- Players can now properly create a friend lobby with 100 or more friends
- Starting positions in online races now reflect the order in which players joined
- Driver Miis now properly express facial animations
- Tournament clock reflects real-world time
