By far the biggest new releases this week are Pokémon Sun and Moon, but there are several other titles that are well worth your attention in week’s Nintendo Download. Read on for our highlights of the week:
Wii U Virtual Console
Excitebike 64 – $9.99
Originally released in 2000 on the N64, Excitebike 64 is the second entry in the Excite series and the first set in a 3D space. A dirtbike racing game at its core, the gameplay has an arcadey feel to it, with players able to perform tricks and turbo boosts. It has plenty of features to keep you entertained, including a 20-track season, exhibition, and time trial modes, with more tracks and features unlocking as you play through it.
Wario Land: Shake It! – $19.99
This remains the latest game in the Wario Land series, and is the first and only time that the series has appeared on home consoles. Just like its predecessors, it is a side-scrolling platform game starring (you guessed it) Wario, this time on a quest to obtain a bottomless coin sack and once again defeat Captain Syrup. The game had a beautiful hand drawn art style and was developed at a time when motion controls were all the rage. It becomes slightly repetitive toward the end, but it’s a worthy entry in the series and something that many fans may have missed out on the first time around.
3DS Retail
Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon – $39.99 (available Friday)
The latest games in the Pokémon series are finally out this Friday. Featuring a number of new Pokémon, the tropical region of Alola, Z-moves and a host of other new features, there is a lot to look forward to here. The games do a lot to shake-up the formula of the series, which became slightly stale in recent iterations, and is a major improvement because of it. They also finally do away with HR moves, which will please some long time fans.
