With Halloween right around the corner, you might find some of this week’s Nintendo Downloads getting you in the holiday spirit (no pun intended)! Let’s dive in.
Wii U eShop
Ectoplaza – $7.99 – If you’d rather celebrate Halloween with friends than spend it alone and creeped out in the dark watching scary movies and eating candy, download this competitive 2D smash ’em up for 2-4 players and invite some friends over for local multiplayer mayhem. You’ll fight against one another as angry ghosts wreaking havoc in haunted hotels; master the art of flinging yourself into your opponents, ricocheting across the screen, and performing trick shots to be the last ghost standing (or perhaps floating is more appropriate) in Afterlives mode. Two other modes, Collectoplaza and Ghostball, provide more ways to compete against one another.
Wii U Virtual Console
Lost in Shadow – $19.99 – If puzzles and platforming are your thing, you might want to give Lost in Shadow a go. Play as the shadow of a boy climbing a mysterious tower, manipulating light sources to alter the alignment of shadows, and at times finding ways to materialize into the 3D world to briefly interact with physical objects and progress up the tower. Minimalist in its visuals and sound, Lost in Shadow provides a different kind of 2D platforming experience.

Corpse Party – $29.99 – In a nutshell, an example of why teenagers probably shouldn’t do strange rituals to “remain friends for eternity.” After a night of sharing ghost stories in their classroom before sending off a friend who is moving, a group of high schoolers perform said ritual to remain forever friends and wind up getting transported to an alternate dimension where they are trapped in Heavenly Host Elementary School, which was torn down after multiple students and teachers were kidnapped and murdered. Explore creepy environments in your desperate attempt to escape and unravel the mystery of what’s happened to you and the unfortunate victims of Heavenly Host.
