It’s an exciting week for retro enthusiasts, as Harvest Moon 64 has finally returned to the land of the living after many years of toiling away in limbo. That’s not the only game worthy of a download this week, though; read on for the other titles worth your time!
Wii U Virtual Console
Harvest Moon 64 – $7.99 – Publisher Natsume has long held that it wasn’t possible to re-release Harvest Moon 64 due to licensing issues. Well, it seems those issues have been resolved just in time for the Harvest Moon series’ 20th anniversary! Harvest Moon 64 is one of the most beloved entries in the franchise for a number of reasons. The non-playable characters (of whom there are over forty!) are a delight, with quirky personalities and fascinating backgrounds that make them come to life. The farming and fishing mechanics are perfectly balanced, resulting in some of the most engrossing gameplay in the series. Throw in a plethora of secrets, charming love interests, and a whole host of grin-inducing glitches (not to mention the fact that Natsume misspelled its own name on the title screen!), and there’s really no reason that fans shouldn’t be flocking to their Wii U to pick up this classic game!

Vaccine – $9.99 – The game pulls liberally from the original PlayStation era of Resident Evil games, but with an emphasis on trying to heal a friend from a deadly disease. The title looks like it has promise and might be worth a look from old-school survival horror enthusiasts.
Ghost Blade HD – $9.99 (Releases 02/28) – Anyone who’s been itching for a 2D, scrolling shooter the likes of Gradius or R-Type should consider giving this title a look. Wii U doesn’t have a ton of bullet-hell titles, but this one looks to be full of potential.
3DS Download
Go! Go! Kokopolo 3D– $5.99 – Fans might’ve passed by the first entry in this series when it launched on DSiWare back in the day. Well, its sequel has arrived and now fans have a chance to see what they missed the first time around. It was an action/puzzle/platformer with a lot of heart; here’s hoping lightning can strike twice!
That’s it for this week! What will you be purchasing?

One interesting note about Vaccine is that it’s by Rainy Night Creations, the small studio that released FreezeMe on Wii U last year. This title doesn’t look like my type of game so much, but I’m definitely following the studio to see what they come up with next. Their twitter account makes it seem like they’re all on board with Nindies, so look forward to future Switch support.
