It’s not every day that video games reflect upon the actual politics of the world around us. Sure, there are allegories that pop up now and again, or even the occasional title like Papers, Please that are more up front. Not Tonight, however, is aiming to take a piece of recent history and turn it from news headlines into interactive pixels.
Developer PanicBarn and publisher No More Robots are promising a game that will look at how Britain might have been transformed had Brexit talks went the other direction and a far-right government came to power. The game is being described as a comedic RPG, with a time-sensitive management system in place. Anyone of European descent has been exiled and are now living lives carrying out menial positions as bouncers and doormen.
Not Tonight tasks players with going through the various patrons passing through and keeping things orderly and calm. Players are also expected to decide whether or not they want to remain unnoticed until things blow over of if they want to join up with the resistance. It’s political intrigue in digital form and will be coming to Switch this year.
